Maryland Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin was confronted on Thursday over why fellow Democrats only seem to care about the Jeffrey Epstein case amid turmoil with Republicans over the allegations.
President Donald Trump has received criticism in recent days for neglecting to publicly release information about the deceased pedophile financier, who reportedly died via suicide six years ago. Raskin was one of several Democrats to push for a release of documents pertaining to Epstein.
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough nevertheless challenged Raskin on his calls for action, asking if there were any similar efforts from Democrats over the past four years to publicize the files.
“You have to go back and look specifically at particular prosecutorial decisions and what was taking place in terms of the other cases,” Raskin told Scarborough.
“We could try to reconstruct that record, but the point is that Donald Trump is the one who has led the crusade to say that Epstein, who was his very close friend, and there’s all kinds of pictures of them and so on, that Epstein was at the center of this broad conspiracy,” Raskin added.
Despite the claims from Raskin with respect to whether Democrats properly handled the case when they were in power, the failure to release the Epstein files has produced backlash from conservatives toward Trump administration officials.
