Every Democratic member of the Senate voted against an amendment that would stop the use of taxpayer funds for flying illegal aliens into the United States.
The past three years have been marked by increased crossings at the border, yet public records obtained by the Center for Immigration Studies showed that United States Customs and Border Protection has “approved secretive flights” that take illegal aliens directly from foreign airports into forty-three American airports. Senator Bill Hagerty, a Republican from Tennessee, proposed an amendment to an appropriations bill that would have halted spending on the program.
Senate Democrats, in addition to the three independents who caucus with the party, voted against the amendment, successfully defeating the effort with fifty-one votes.
“Do you support Americans’ tax dollars being used to fly illegal aliens into the United States from places like Venezuela and Haiti to be resettled in towns and cities near you?” Hagerty asked his colleagues. “If so, then vote against me. Vote no to preserve the practice of using taxpayer dollars to charter planes and import thousands of illegal aliens into your states.”
Biden administration officials imported some 320,000 illegal aliens through the program last year alone, according to the documents received by the Center for Immigration Studies. The illegal aliens can preapprove their entry into the United States through a cell phone scheduling app, after which they receive “travel authorization and temporary humanitarian release.”
Countries whose citizens are eligible to enter the United States under the program include Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, and Ecuador.
Hagerty previously contended that Democrats want additional illegal aliens in the United States to increase the number of congressional districts they receive for the House of Representatives. “They want these illegal migrants in here to create more electoral power for them in their blue states,” he said. “They’re basically creating sanctuary cities to be a magnet, so these people will disproportionately flow to these blue states. They’re shipping them there as rapidly as they can.”
