Gun Pulse: Activists say New York shooting shows need for more gun control laws

Giffords said on social media that “we’re one day into the new year and already communities are reeling from mass shootings,” adding that “this won’t stop until our leaders act.”

Leftist gun control activists called for new restrictions on firearms after a shooting took place at a nightclub in Queens even though New York City already has extensive limits on gun rights.

The shooting occurred last Wednesday evening at the Amazura nightclub as three or four young males fired at a group waiting to enter the building, which was hosting a celebration of life for a sixteen-year-old who died from a fatal shooting. Authorities are currently investigating to see whether the incident was related to gangs, while all ten victims are expected to survive.

Giffords claimed on social media that “we’re one day into the new year and already communities are reeling from mass shootings,” adding that “this won’t stop until our leaders act.” Brady said that the incident was “not the way we were hoping to bring in the new year.”

“Tragedies like this are preventable,” the gun control group added. “We have the solutions and in 2025, we must come together to demand action and create the safer country we all deserve.”

The gun control organizations were nevertheless rebuked for overlooking the reality that residents of New York City are already subject to many restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms, none of which successfully prevented the most recent shooting in Queens.

The official social media page for the National Association for Gun Rights responded to the argument from Brady by noting that the shooting happened “in yet another one of your golden child states you prop up as a model for gun control being successful.”

“Their worldview is a fundamental failure,” the post from the Second Amendment advocacy group contended. “Each time it provably fails they will not reassess their beliefs, they will just push further, until eventually they have banned rocks and sharp sticks.”

Giffords indeed ranked the state of New York with their highest possible rating for the strength of gun control laws. They commended the state for intensifying an “existing gun industry accountability law” and bankrolling “community violence intervention programs.”
