Gun Pulse: ATF pistol brace rule vacated after Justice Department drops defense

The controversial pistol brace rule from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives was tossed out last week after Justice Department officials agreed to drop their defense of the Biden administration rule in court.

 

The rule, which took effect two years ago, had reclassified certain pistols with stabilizing braces as short-barrel rifles, subjecting them to the National Firearms Act’s registration requirements and additional regulatory hurdles.

 

Second Amendment advocates scored the win through a lawsuit. “This afternoon, Firearms Policy Coalition and the federal government agreed to a joint dismissal of the government's appeal,” the organization announced.
