Gun Pulse: New bill would protect gun rights during public health emergencies

The legislative proposal, called the Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act, was also introduced in the last Congress alongside twenty-nine other Republicans to bar the President of the United States from limiting the Second Amendment.

Texas Republican Representative Michael Cloud introduced legislation this week attempting to protect Second Amendment liberties in the event that officials declare a national emergency.

 

Cloud observed that Biden administration officials such as Surgeon General Vivek Murthy repeatedly labeled violence committed with firearms as a “public health crisis,” raising concerns that federal authorities could seek to restrict the right to bear arms with emergency orders.
