Parents Defending Education identified several dozen universities that are training future teachers with leftist curriculum involving critical race theory and other progressive ideologies.
The national grassroots nonprofit said in a new analysis that they identified at least sixty-seven universities across the country with education departments which incorporate “radical left-wing ideologies in undergraduate and graduate education courses.” Those course descriptions had references to “critical race theory” and included material from authors like Robin DiAngelo.
“We did a broad search for college of education syllabi and course descriptions from undergraduate-level to graduate-level that focused on selected search terms,” they said.
Parents Defending Education found twenty-eight references to “critical theory” in curricula, as well as thirty-one references to “white supremacy” and thirty-four references to “queer theory.”
Colorado State University offers an “ethnic studies major” with a certification track including an ethnic studies course that discusses “Trump and the politics of hate and white radicalism.” George Mason University has leftist coursework that considers the “three pillars of white supremacy” and the “role that white supremacy and whiteness play in a queer classroom.”
Portland State University in particular has a vision for educators and counselors centered on the idea of the “teacher as activist.” Their elementary school program is directed by “recognizing the histories of colonization, settler colonialism, white supremacy, imperialism, and neoliberalism upon which the United States and its systems of education have been built and sustained.”
Schools with leftist education curricula include elite universities such as Stanford University and Harvard University as well as large state universities such as the University of North Carolina and the University of Texas. Nearly 7% of college students graduate with education degrees.
