Hunter Biden received $260,000 from Chinese sources and listed his father’s home as the beneficiary address as Joe Biden was running for the Democratic presidential nomination, according to House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky.

Comer revealed in a press release that Wang Xin wired $10,000 to Hunter Biden in July 2019 and that Jonathan Li and Tan Ling wired him $250,000 one month later. Hunter Biden had “developed a business relationship” with Li during his father’s vice presidency, while Joe Biden “developed a familiar relationship” with Li during his vice presidency and prior to the payments.

“When Joe Biden was vice president, he spoke on the phone and had coffee with Jonathan Li in Beijing, and later wrote a college letter of recommendation for his children,” Comer detailed. “Joe Biden’s abuse of public office for his family’s financial gain threatens our national security. What did the Bidens do with this money from Beijing? Americans demand and deserve accountability for President Biden and the first family’s corruption.”

George Mesires, an attorney for Hunter Biden, stated three months later that his client did not receive money from BHR Partners, an investment firm controlled by the Chinese government and in partnership with Hunter Biden’s company. The lawyer did not mention payments from Li.

The press release noted that Hunter Biden arranged for his father to shake hands with Li during a visit to Beijing. Joe Biden has nevertheless claimed that his “son has not made money” in China and that “the only guy who made money in China” was President Donald Trump.

Biden has insisted that he did not involve himself with his son’s overseas activities. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki answered affirmatively last year when asked to confirm that the commander-in-chief has never spoken to Hunter Biden about his “overseas business dealings,” while President Biden said last month that he “never talked business with anybody” and accused the reporter who pressed him about the matter of asking a “lousy question.”
