Children’s National Hospital announced that they would cease providing so-called sex-change substances in the coming weeks amid legal pressures surrounding the dangerous substances.
The organization, located in Washington DC, said that they would be “discontinuing the prescription of gender-affirming medications” by the end of August “in light of escalating legal and regulatory risks.”
“Mental health and other support services for LGBT patients remain available. You are always welcome at Children’s National for your other medical needs,” Children’s National Hospital insisted in a statement. “We know this change will have a significant impact on affected patients, families, and staff. Our care teams are working directly with families of current patients to support them.”
President Donald Trump has indeed issued a number of orders and actions against so-called sex-change surgeries and hormone blockers, particularly with respect to children. The administration observes that sex is an immutable facet of any individual and cannot be changed.
Despite the pause on transgender procedures, part of the Children’s National Hospital website continues to commend the practices, claiming that they offer “essential care at a time they need it most.”
Justice Department officials had also sent over twenty subpoenas to hospitals across the country involved in so-called sex-change procedures ahead of the decision from the Children’s National Hospital.
