Michael Grondahl, one of the two founders of Planet Fitness, shredded the gym franchise company for their policies allowing men claiming to be women into female locker rooms.
Planet Fitness has witnessed multiple instances of self-described transgender men entering locker rooms meant for women and in some cases exposing their genitalia. The company, which officially allows “all members, including transgender members,” to use locker rooms “based on their self-reported gender identity,” has seen stock prices plummet amid the incidents.
Grondahl, who helped to launch the company in 1992 and left in 2017, said during an interview with Libs of TikTok founder Chaya Raichik that executives have misstepped significantly.
"Planet Fitness was like another child for me. And I put my heart and soul into building that company, and it's been pretty much destroyed, it's lost all respect within the country within the last couple of weeks," Grondahl said. "You fast-forward to what's happening today, and 'judgment-free zone' means that if you're a man you can use the women's locker room.”
There has been at least one alleged incident involving a female minor being made uncomfortable by a man changing in the female locker room. "To be honest, I have a daughter, and had I been in the facility and heard what was going on, I'd want to go in there and freaking take the guy by the neck and throw him out on the parking lot," Grondahl continued.
Planet Fitness is far from the only brand to face severe backlash over their acceptance of transgender ideology: Bud Light was unseated as the most popular beer in the United States after the company leveraged Dylan Mulvaney, a male social media influencer who claims to be a woman, in a marketing promotion early last year, thereby triggering a boycott campaign.
