Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel presided over the 2022 midterm elections, which many Republicans see as widespread failure.
Now McDaniel is looking for a fourth term as the head of the RNC, and faces a difficult path to re-election.
According to a poll conducted by Trafalgar Group and Convention of States Action, only 14% of Republican voters support McDaniel’s re-election, showcasing large degrees of discontent with McDaniel’s leadership among party voters. Instead, 86% of Republican voters favor Harmeet Dhillon as the next RNC chair, according to Trafalgar.
When a party’s leadership is corrupt and incompetent, it must be changed wholesale. If not, it will only ensure that their rivals cruise to political hegemony with little to no resistance.
McDaniel assumed the RNC chair position in 2017 and her time as chair has been marked by controversy. At the end of 2022, reports surfaced about the RNC’s 2021-2022 spending figures, which revealed lavish expenditures for private jets ($500,000), clothing retailers ($64,000), and floral arrangements ($321,000). After news came out about the RNC’s spendthrift habits, conservative media personalities such as Mark Levin called for Ronna McDaniel's removal.

McDaniel’s lackluster performance as RNC Chair was also noticed by the Texas Republican Party. On December 13, 2022, the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) voted 62-0 for a vote of no confidence in Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. State party leaders viewed the GOP’s mixed performance during the 2022 midterms as the straw that broke the camel’s back. In light of these developments, the state’s voting members must vote for her replacement in January.
“Under Chairman McDaniel’s leadership, the GOP lost both houses of Congress and the White House, and seriously underperformed in 2022, further losing ground in the Senate and only barely winning a majority in the House,” the Texas "no confidence" resolution noted.
“Ronna McDaniel represents everything that is wrong with the RINO-infested GOP. The party needs bold new leadership that will actually work to hold corrupt government actors accountable and do what the GOP claims to support: radically cutting the size and scope of government.” — Mobilize the Message CEO Cliff Maloney
Per the resolution, the SREC has called on the Texas GOP’s leadership, who are able to vote in the election set for later this month, to select a new party leader to rectify the “deficiencies” that took place under McDaniel’s leadership.
“The grassroots have lost faith in Chairman McDaniel and the RNC and believe the Party needs new leadership that will address deficiencies in fundraising, messaging, GOTV, and election integrity and put the party in closer alignment with its grassroots supporters and voters,” the resolution proclaimed.
Cliff Maloney, the CEO of Mobilize the Message, also had choice words for McDaniel’s stewardship of the GOP:
Ronna McDaniel represents everything that is wrong with the RINO-infested GOP. The party needs bold new leadership that will actually work to hold corrupt government actors accountable and do what the GOP claims to support: radically cutting the size and scope of government.
“Embracing the fight against the establishment is what the American people want, regardless of party. And with the Democrats so clearly representing the status quo… it’s a criminal act for the GOP to be led by Ronna McDaniel, who is clearly not prepared to fight for the America First agenda,” Maloney added.
The constant state of disappointment that marks many conservative activists is no coincidence. It’s the results of a detached leadership that ignores grassroots demands and prefers to live the high life that’s associated with DC politics. Such behavior is unbecoming of a party that supposedly touts fiscal responsibility, limited government, and self-reliance.
When a party’s leadership is corrupt and incompetent, it must be changed wholesale. If not, it will only ensure that their rivals — Democrats and their leftist allies in this case — cruise to political hegemony with little to no resistance. A disastrous fate of this nature can be avoided once the grassroots realizes that the current crop of GOP leaders does not have the chops to confront the Left and bring back America to its limited government roots.
