Alina Habba, the interim United States Attorney for the Southern District of New Jersey, said she is probing senior Democrats in the state for refusing to help federal immigration enforcement.
The investigation stems from an order issued seven years ago which limits “the types of voluntary assistance” that state and local New Jersey police are allowed to provide federal immigration authorities, a policy that has continued recently under New Jersey Democratic Governor Phil Murphy as well as New Jersey Democratic Attorney General Matthew Platkin.
“I want it to be a warning for everybody that I have instructed my office today to open an investigation into Governor Murphy, to open an investigation into Attorney General Platkin, who has also instructed the state police not to assist any of our federal agencies,” Habba remarked.
