The celebration of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, ended this week.

Muslims recognize the holiday, which is one of the five pillars of Islam, as a month-long series of fasts and religious devotions, which includes both morning meals and feasts in the evening.

The practice has no bearing on the Western world and stands in contradiction to Christianity.

But there were leaders from across the West, including here in the United States, who took to social media in recognition of Eid, the last day of Ramadan, in order to pander or virtue signal.

They are so stunning and brave.

Virginia Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin said that the “Muslim community” in his state was celebrating “the breaking of the fast and the end of Ramadan,” concluding with “Eid Mubarak.” Virginia Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares similarly voiced an “Eid Mubarak” to the Muslims in the state who are “celebrating the end of Ramadan and the breaking of the fast.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer offered an “Eid Mubarak” as the “holy month of Ramadan ends,” as did even King Charles III, who repeated the greeting to Muslim adherents in his realm.

As previously mentioned, these recognitions of Islam are highly performative virtue signals at best, or they are deeply subversive mechanisms to further erode Christian culture at worst.

America and Britain have had their fair share of encounters with Islam, and very few have been positive. From the days of crusader King Richard the Lionheart, who is of course an ancestor of Charles III, to the vicious Barbary Pirates who tormented American merchants in the early days of our republic, to the terrorism of this current century, Islam has been adversarial to the West.

We are nevertheless allowing Christianity to be eroded and for Islam to be ascendant.

The West has a death wish.

The vast majority of our forefathers throughout the extensive history of Christendom never would have paid homage to Ramadan, both because that holiday belongs to a false religion, and because that particular false religion has been an existential threat to our civilization.

There are precious few Westerners, and even fewer Western civil officials, who either understand the issue or are interested in preserving Western culture for the future.

As a result, we can sorrowfully expect Islam to continue gaining not only recognition in the public square, but even public hegemony as Christianity dies in the West and Islam ascends.
