Brief:
Democratic Senatorial candidate Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) has called for action against Trump supporters and said that it’s essential to work with “mainstream” Republicans to “kill and confront” the MAGA movement. The rest of his party has remained silent to what some have labeled violent speech.
Background:
Rep. Ryan previously blamed Trump for the 2019 mass shooting in El Paso. “I believe that the president is most certainly creating an environment here where people like this kid in El Paso drive ten hours to go kill Mexicans, kill people of color,” Ryan stated at the time.
“How do we fix all of these broken systems? Some of those answers will come from Republicans, not the extremists that we are dealing with every single day. We’ve got to kill and confront that movement, but working with normal mainstream Republicans, that’s going to be really, really important,” Ryan said on MSNBC. He also claimed that Trump “has created an environment in the United States that is absolutely toxic.”
The White House did not respond to multiple requests for comment on the subject, and White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre did not address it during the press briefing on Tuesday.
