Three current and former United States Army soldiers were arrested by the FBI on Thursday over the alleged communication of national security information to individuals in China.
Jian Zhao and Li Tian, who are active-duty soldiers, were arrested for “conspiring to commit bribery and theft of government property,” while former soldier Ruoyu Duan was also arrested. Zhao in particular allegedly conspired to “obtain and transmit national defense information.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi commented in a statement that the defendants “will face swift, severe, and comprehensive justice” for allegedly “betraying our country, actively working to weaken America’s defense capabilities, and empowering our adversaries in China.”
