Alabama has stand your ground laws under which individuals can employ deadly force if they believe that they are in imminent danger, provided that they are in a location where they are legally allowed to be located. File Image.

Officials in the town of Spanish Fort, Alabama, said that a man shot and injured an intruder who broke into their home on Saturday night while he, his wife, and his three children were asleep.

Spanish Fort Police Chief John Barber said that the homeowner “was awakened by his wife who believed she heard somebody make an entry into the house.” The homeowner fired one shot at the seventeen-year-old who broke in through a window, hitting the teenager in the abdomen.

“Our officers were able to apply chest seals to the individual that was suffering from the gunshot,” he said. “It was a substantial wound. At this time, we believe he is critical, but stable.”
