The executive action requires Bondi to review at minimum all executive orders under Biden, as well as rules promulgated by the Justice Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order last week directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to identify previous orders, rules, and guidances that infringe on the Second Amendment.

The executive action requires Bondi to review “at minimum” all executive orders under former President Joe Biden, rules promulgated by the Justice Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and agency classifications of firearms and ammunition.

“The Second Amendment is an indispensable safeguard of security and liberty. It has preserved the right of the American people to protect ourselves, our families, and our freedoms since the founding of our great nation,” the executive order said. “Because it is foundational to maintaining all other rights held by Americans, the right to keep and bear arms must not be infringed.”

Trump also asked Bondi to examine all “reports and related documents” issued by the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, an initiative of the previous administration that sought to promote federal and state gun control efforts under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

Bondi must meanwhile examine “the positions taken by the United States in any and all ongoing and potential litigation that affects or could affect the ability of Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights,” meaning that prosecutors cannot infringe on such liberties.

Gun Owners of America thanked the commander-in-chief for the order, noting that he took “bold action to fulfill one of his key campaign promises,” a move that could enable future gun rights advances.

Aidan Johnston, director of federal affairs for Gun Owners of America, said that gun owners “fought hard to elect a president who would take a sledgehammer to Biden’s unconstitutional gun control policies, and today, President Trump proved he’s serious about that fight.”

“We hope that this executive order is just the first of many victories reestablishing our Second Amendment rights during the Trump administration,” he added, warning that the gun rights entity “will not rest until every illegal gun grab from the Biden administration is fully repealed.”
