Hillary Clinton is no stranger to public scandal and FBI investigations. The former First Lady and Secretary of State took the opportunity to mock former President Donald Trump after his residence at Mar-A-Lago was raided by the FBI.
Clinton notoriously scrubbed 33,000 emails, possibly destroying evidence and sparking a national uproar. FBI director James Comey called her actions “extremely careless,” but did not recommend pressing criminal charges. Clinton has yet to face consequences for her actions.
After the Mar-a-Lago raid, Clinton created t-shirts and mugs with “But Her Emails” with proceeds benefiting liberal causes, and tweeted: “Every ’But her emails’ hat or shirt sold helps @onwardtogether partners defend democracy, build a progressive bench, and fight for our values. Just saying!”
“There’s also a lot of speculation because of what they did, the severity of the FBI coming and raiding Mar-a-Lago. Were they looking for the Hillary Clinton emails that were deleted but they are around someplace? They may have thought that it was in there,” Trump had previously stated.
“I can’t believe we’re still talking about this, but my emails,” Clinton said. “As Trump’s problems continue to mount, the right is trying to make this about me again. There’s even a ’Clinton Standard.’ The fact is that I had zero emails that were classified.”
In an op-ed penned in 2016 as the FBI reopened its investigation into the Hillary Clinton’s emails Rep. Jim Jordan pointed out the following:
A truth that was hidden until now is that the FBI, the Congress and most importantly the American people will likely never have all of her work-related emails, because her lawyers ‘cleaned their devices in such a way as to preclude complete forensic recovery.’ As Comey said, it’s likely that ‘there are other work-related emails that [Clinton’s lawyers] did not produce to State and that [the FBI] did not find elsewhere, and that are now gone.’
Whether through incompetence or willful disregard for security protocol, Hillary Clinton jeopardized national security for personal gain. Despite her statements to the contrary, Clinton sent and received top-secret classified information through her unclassified email system.
In response to the Mar-a-Lago raid, Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted, “Executing a warrant against ex-POTUS is dangerous. The apparent political weaponization of DOJ/FBI is shameful. AG must explain why 250 yrs of practice was upended w/ this raid. I served on Benghazi Com where we proved Hilliary possessed classified info. We didn’t raid her home.”
