The left loves performative activism that costs them little and allows them to virtue signal.
There is perhaps no better example of performative activism than paper straws. They dissolve in your mouth and turn to mush, all while sparing the landfills only a few grams of plastic.
President Donald Trump announced that he will sign an executive order opposing them.
Possibly the best order he has unveiled so far.
This may seem like a strange area of emphasis from the commander-in-chief.
But paper straws are a microcosm of how leftist performative activism and virtue signaling make life worse for everyone, and the Trump administration is absolutely right to signal against them.
As previously mentioned, paper straws are inconvenient nuisances that are most certainly not worth the environmental benefit they offer. That is also the case for much weightier matters.
The entirety of the leftist approach to climate policy, for example, relies on the practice of ritual economic self-immolation for little tangible returns, mostly to be seen as righteous before others.
But while the leftists are busy proclaiming their virtue for pushing to artificially increase the cost of energy, countries like India and China are shamelessly pumping the atmosphere full of carbon, both erasing any reductions in the West and achieving economic ascendance.
Perhaps they should protest in Beijing.
The vast majority of society who are unimpressed by virtue signaling from the leftists, and who have to endure the needless consequences of said virtue signaling, have finally had enough.
Trump clearly knows that and has tapped into public sentiment against them.
Far beyond the White House, every sane person in America should stand against the insanity. The way we defeat the leftists is simply by making our voices heard and refusing to comply.
