Attorney General Pam Bondi said that the Justice Department would pursue the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, who allegedly murdered UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson.

Mangione allegedly “stalked and murdered” Thompson at the end of last year in an “act of political violence,” according to a release from the Justice Department. The agency said that Mangione used “substantial planning and premeditation” to carry out the attack on Thompson.

Bondi said the move was in line with her previous directive to lift the moratorium on the federal death penalty, including in the case of Thompson, who was the father of two young children.
