Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, unveiled a database on Tuesday that identified over 3,400 federal health research grants that “advanced neo-Marxist class warfare propaganda” within major universities and research entities.
The federal grants, which exceed $2 billion in total funds, demonstrate how the National Science Foundation increasingly pursued “politicized scientific research” pertaining to diversity, racial identity, sexual ideology, and other facets of leftism under former President Joe Biden.
Cruz staffers investigated the programs and assembled the database as President Donald Trump ordered the immediate termination of all diversity, equity, and inclusion in the federal government, prompting the National Science Foundation to freeze annual grant reviews.
The lawmaker said in a release of the data that diversity initiatives “have poisoned research efforts, eroded confidence in the scientific community, and fueled division among Americans.”
The investigative report categorized the $2 billion in grants with respect to their particular ideological emphasis. The majority in some way involved describing “persons based on their membership in a population deemed underrepresented, underserved, socioeconomically disadvantaged, or excluded.” Some of the grants likewise centered on investigating “racial inequity and white supremacy,” while others were based on “environmental justice.”
The report said that the Biden administration “tasked federal science agencies to restructure scientific investigation into an exercise in categorizing individuals by their background, not by their talent and capabilities,” adding that over one-quarter of grants fell into such categories.
“Already, billions of taxpayer dollars have been wasted,” the report added. “These grants both crowd out other kinds of research that could advance understanding of the physical world and advance a deeply divisive philosophy antithetical to the tenets of empirical scientific research.”
