Opinion: The Two-FACE Act

The hypocrisy of US Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Biden Administration is on full display as they ruthlessly pursue prosecution of peaceful pro-lifers while ignoring violent attacks from abortion supporters.

“The Biden administration is using the Department of Justice as a weapon against peaceful pro-life activists and leaders,” said Herb Geraghty.

Geraghty isn’t a conservative pundit. He’s not a Republican politician stumping for his campaign. And he definitely isn’t the typical pro-life activist. The 25-year-old self-professed atheist is a board member of the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) and the Pro-Life Alliance of Gays and Lesbians.

And while Geraghty and the organizations he’s involved with don’t espouse a worldview that can give a clear answer to the question of abortion, something happened to him that earned him a spot in this article:

Biden’s Department of Justice is trying to turn the screws on him and his progressive pro-life friends.

In mid-October, Geraghty was added to a list of 9 other protestors indicted for peacefully blockading an abortion mill in October 2020 and allegedly violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.1

He’s just one of the pro-life activists that have been targeted by the DOJ this year.

On September 23rd, FBI agents raided the home of Mark Houck for an incident a year earlier involving a pro-abortion activist who was allegedly verbally harassing his 11-year-old son at an abortion mill.2

On October 5th, the FBI raided the home of Paul Vaughn while his family was getting ready for the drive to school. FBI agents allegedly showed up at the home with guns in hand.3

But Geraghty’s arrest was different.

His arrest showed that the radical abortion proponents pulling the strings at the DOJ do not care who gets in their way. They do not care if you agree with them on nearly every other policy issue. They do not care if you identify as “progressive.”

And frankly, they don't really care if you break the law.

While SWAT teams and federal agents have been invading pro-lifers’ homes and pointing guns at their children, who has been arresting the perpetrators of the fire-bomb attacks, vandalism, and threats of violence against pro-life pregnancy resources centers?

Not the Department of Justice.

According to the Heritage Foundation, since the release of the Dobbs decision, there have been around 70 attacks on pro-life centers that provide “reproductive health services” which should be also protected by the FACE Act. There have been zero charges filed against anyone involved in any of these attacks.4

The facts declare that Biden’s DOJ is the department of double standards.

And thus, the name of this article: The Two-FACE Act.

As for Geraghty, he stands exceedingly resolute for a 25-year-old:

“If convicted, I am facing up to 11 years in federal prison. That is obviously terrifying. However, 11 years is nothing compared to having your life snuffed out before you are even old enough to take your first steps or speak your first words,” he wrote on Twitter.5

There are many lessons here for Christians doing anything important in this world — not just abortion ministry.

First, if a professing atheist is willing to face 11 years of prison time for the sake of the unborn, how much more should Christians who serve the living God be willing to say, do, and endure for the sake of Christ?

Second, Jesus warned his disciples of the reality of opposition: “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you” (Matt. 5:11-12).

Finally, the opposition will not be fair.

The abortion debate is not primarily a matter of policy. It is not a mere difference between politicians’ opinions. It is a question of whether we will uphold the sacred right to life or condemn millions more innocent children to death.

It’s first a moral issue. And the morals of each side — for good or ill — will run all the way through their goals and methods.

Christians should fight fair without expecting the fight to be fair. We should oppose the abortion agenda honestly without expecting the opposition to be honest.
