You may remember a year or two ago when the federal government decided to crack down on gas stoves, insisting that they were bad for health and for the environment.

There were federal officials openly floating the possibility of an outright ban.

Those bans never materialized, but attacks on the classic kitchen appliance have once more been mounted in recent days by our all-wise regulatory class.

California lawmakers recently introduced a bill that would prohibit the sale of gas stoves unless they come with an “adhesive label attached in a conspicuous location” to warn about health risks from the appliances, such as particulates that may worsen asthma.

Thank you Big Brother!

Department of Energy officials meanwhile formalized their federal rule that will mandate more energy efficient gas stoves, despite comments on the proposed rule that the new requirements will needlessly increase costs for consumers, even amid already elevated inflation.

That comes even after Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm admitted that she herself owns a gas stove despite their alleged environmental and health dangers. Vice President Kamala Harris also happened to post a picture on social media that included her gas stove in the background.

Gas stoves for me but not for thee.

The war on gas stoves perfectly demonstrates the ethos of our elites.

The people who run our federal and state governments simply see the people as nothing but unwashed peasants, who must even be told what cooking appliances to use, and who are simply too ignorant to make conscious health decisions for themselves and their families.

They manipulate the market, increasing prices for products like gas stoves and making them less attainable, thereby forcing more people to use inferior products like electric stoves.

At the same time, they continue to enjoy their gas stoves, having never felt a single concern about their apparent danger, even as everyday families have no such luxury.

The hypocrisy is the point.

Our founders wanted a nation in which a capable people governed themselves, and in which they were not governed by an autocratic and unaccountable elite.

But now, that elite manages our lives, even the surfaces on which we prepare our food.

Petty tyranny is the worst kind of tyranny.
