President Joe Biden defended the advent of purported sex-change procedures on children in an official “pride month” proclamation issued by the White House last week.

Various states have advanced laws banning hormones and surgeries attempting to cause gender transitions in children. Biden called the bans “dangerous and hateful” while asserting that they “target transgender children, threaten families, and criminalize doctors and nurses.”

“These bills and laws attack our most basic values and freedoms as Americans: the right to be yourself, the right to make your own medical decisions, and the right to raise your own children,” he said. “Some things should never be put at risk: your life, your safety, and your dignity.”

Biden voices support for the procedures even as studies repeatedly demonstrate that they are closely associated with increased suicide risks. Many critics of transgenderism indeed say that the irreversible physical harm rendered by hormones and surgeries, as well as the biological impossibility of changing individual sex, help to explain the harmful impacts of the practices on mental health. The procedures also create other medical issues that tend to decrease life expectancy and result in patients becoming dependent on future medical interventions.

The commander-in-chief reminded homosexuals and transgenders “and especially transgender children” that his administration supports them. “We see you for who you are: made in the image of God and deserving of dignity, respect, and support,” he continued in the proclamation.

The proclamation from the White House also revealed that Biden administration officials are reviewing “whether book bans may violate federal civil rights laws.” Many conservative parents and lawmakers note that progressive activists have supported the presence of sexually explicit books in classrooms, especially those with themes of questioning gender identity or experiencing homosexual attraction, and therefore called for the removal of the volumes.
