Sneha Nair, a nuclear research analyst hired this year by the Biden administration as a special assistant for the National Nuclear Security Administration, previously wrote about “queering nuclear energy” and the purported need to increase racial diversity within the nuclear sector.
Nair previously worked as a research analyst for the Stimson Institute, an entity which has received substantial funds from the Open Society Foundation, a grantmaking network founded by George Soros. The analyst coauthored an article last year which said “equity and inclusion for queer people” in fields surrounding nuclear weapons is “essential for creating effective nuclear policy,” as well as complained about the dominance of white males in the sector.
“Queer theory informs the struggle for nuclear justice and disarmament,” the article said. “Queer theory helps to shift the perception of nuclear weapons as instruments for security by telling the hidden stories of displacement, illness, and trauma caused by their production and testing.”
Nair and her coauthor also claimed that a predominantly white nuclear workforce may allow for certain security threats to remain undetected relative to a more diverse workforce. They said that some white supremacist groups have “plans to acquire nuclear weapons or material” but could remain undetected since a “white-majority workforce does not perceive these groups and their ideological motivation as a relevant threat to their nuclear security mission.”
The article added that women consider the nuclear field to be “male-dominated and unwelcoming” and claimed “homogenous groups like this are prone to groupthink and hostile to critical examination of baseline assumptions about how adversaries construct and identify nuclear threats and risks.” The coauthors observed that Richard Johnson, who serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Policy, has said that he has felt “inhibited to speak up and contribute in a workplace culture dominated by traditional masculinity that treated homosexuality as a risk factor.”
Biden administration officials have been criticized for other recent hires at the Department of Energy. Sam Brinton, a homosexual activist who served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition, was charged for stealing luggage belonging to women at various airports, and was photographed publicly wearing some of the clothing.
