The government of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will ban the possession, manufacturing, and sale of ninja swords, an effort they claim will reduce violence with knives and swords.

Officials with the Home Office, the agency responsible for public safety, said that ninja swords, defined as blades between fourteen inches and twenty-four inches long with one edge, would be banned starting in August. Those caught with the weapons could face six months in prison.

“Knife crime is destroying young lives as too many teenagers are being drawn into violence and it is far too easy for them to get hold of dangerous weapons,” Home Secretary Yvette Cooper remarked in a statement. “We are acting with urgency to bring forward measures to prevent deadly weapons from getting into the wrong hands and will continue to do whatever is needed to prevent young people being killed on our streets as part of our mission to halve knife crime.”
