Florida state attorneys launched a probe into Jacksonville city officials who allegedly kept an illegal registry of concealed carry permit holders at City Hall, a practice that may violate state law prohibiting firearms registration.

The bombshell came from Jacksonville Republican City Councilman Nick Howland, who disclosed that private security guards had been quietly compiling lists since July 2023. These guards collected names, contact information, and firearm details from armed citizens legally entering the building.
