The number of homeless people in the United States reached the highest level ever recorded last year as illegal aliens placed additional strain on homeless shelters and local resources.

There were over 770,000 homeless individuals last year across the country, according to a report from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, marking a substantial 18% increase from the 650,000 homeless individuals reported in the previous year.

The agency admitted in a press release that increased homelessness in some areas was “a result of their work to shelter a rising number of asylum seekers coming into their communities.”

The press release added that illegal immigration “had a particularly notable impact on family homelessness,” which “more than doubled” in the thirteen communities that reported “being affected by migration.” There was an overall 39% rise in family homelessness across the nation.

President Joe Biden has overseen record levels of illegal immigration over the past four years. The release from the agency nevertheless attempted to downplay the role of federal immigration policy in worsening homelessness, instead assigning blame to “Congressional Republicans” who refused to vote for legislation in the Senate to impose superficial limits on border crossings.

Several major cities have struggled to deal with the rising numbers of illegal aliens. Some cities, such as Denver, Colorado, have reduced services for residents in order to shelter the new arrivals.
