Kentucky Republican Senator Mitch McConnell announced on Thursday that he will not seek reelection to his seat in the Senate next year, ending his lengthy career in the upper chamber.

 

The decision from McConnell, who is eighty-three years old, comes roughly one year after he announced his resignation from nearly two decades as the leader of the Senate Republicans, and after he experienced several health incidents that raised concerns about his ability to serve.
