Christians and conservatives voiced disagreement over the executive order, warning the Trump administration that IVF typically involves discarding, freezing, or selectively aborting fertilized embryos.

The executive order comes after Trump promised on the campaign trail that he would expand IVF, either through federally funding the procedures or by requiring insurance to cover them. File Image.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday seeking to expand access to IVF and reduce costs for Americans who want to pursue the highly controversial procedure.

The executive order on IVF, a procedure in which a sperm and egg are artificially joined outside of the womb and implanted into the uterus, asked his domestic policy advisers for a “list of policy recommendations on protecting IVF access and aggressively reducing out-of-pocket and health plan costs for IVF treatment,” according to a fact sheet published by the White House.
