Most Americans do not need a national security briefing to understand why letting China buy land next to our military installations is a bad idea. But Arizona Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs apparently lacks that common sense.
In a move that would make Chinese President Xi Jinping send a thank-you basket, she vetoed legislation this week which would have prevented the Chinese Communist Party from purchasing land near military installations in Arizona.
The legislation, which had sailed through the state legislature with support from both parties, aimed to address the painfully obvious security risk of letting a hostile foreign power set up shop next to where we train our warfighters.
Patriots need not apply.
Hobbs defended her baffling decision by claiming the bill was “ineffective at counter-espionage and does not directly protect our military assets.” She added that the bill “lacks clear implementation and opens the door to arbitrary enforcement.”
