Editor’s Note: Woke Wars, formerly an email newsletter from The Sentinel meant to cover the cultural insurgence of wokeness in our society, is now exclusively available on our website.
Ibram Kendi was one of the foremost racial grifters during the 2020 summer of love.
The leading critical theorist took the nation by storm, with his books about antiracism entering classrooms and boardrooms across America, preaching that those who desire not to be racist cannot merely refrain from racism, but must instead pursue antiracism as a core part of their lives.
But as wokeness collapses all around us, his pet project Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University is now closing down, while he is jumping ship for Howard University.
Always moving on to the next scam.
Boston University said that Kendi was the one who decided to move, while the dozen staff members at the Center for Antiracist Research will remain employed for only the next six months.
The chief opponents of critical race theory were swift to celebrate the decision.
Christopher Rufo, a conservative activist involved in removing wokeness from academia, said on social media that the initiative “hoovered up tens of millions of dollars in grants, but produced virtually no work,” meaning that yet another Black Lives Matter grift has come to a close.
Boston University investigated the Center for Antiracist Research for the way in which they were using their grant funds after employees said the initiative failed to complete most projects.
Antiracism is pretty expensive apparently.
Kendi will apparently retain his influence in the world of racial grievance and the public square.
But the ground is shifting beneath his feet, and there is only so much patience that American culture has for the utterly destructive social movements that throttled our national life in recent years.
Kendi may have another cushy position in academia, but as most of our major institutions seek to eject the woke mind virus with which they were infected, his days of grifting are numbered.
