Dr. Anthony Fauci announced Monday that he will retire in December of this year to “pursue the next chapter” of his career.
Throughout the pandemic, Fauci has repeatedly sparred with Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) over Fauci's handling of the COVID virus.
These public exchanges focus largely on Dr. Fauci's direction of government policy and the relationship between Fauci and the Wuhan lab.
“Dr. Fauci, the idea that a government official like yourself would claim unilaterally to represent science and that any criticism of you would be considered a criticism of science itself is quite dangerous,” Paul said during a Senate hearing at which Fauci testified.
Rep. Paul said he will use all of his ability after the midterms to ensure that the American people get justice and that Dr. Fauci will have to answer for his actions. “If we win in November, if I’m chairman of a committee, if I have subpoena power, we’ll go after every one of [Fauci’s] records,” Rep. Paul stated.
“Fauci needs to be gone,” Sen. Paul recently said. “When we have the power to remove him, we will. I don’t know if that’s going to come before Biden leaves office, but we’ll see what can happen with a unified Congress. It’s not so easy without the presidency."
President Biden has consistently supported the policies Fauci directed and which many have criticized as government overreach.
“Whether you’ve met him personally or not, he has touched all Americans’ lives with his work,” said President Biden upon Fauci’s announcement. “I extend my deepest thanks for his public service. The United States of America is stronger, more resilient, and healthier because of him.”
Multiple Republican congressmen and candidates have stated that they will begin an official investigation of Fauci’s misuse of power during the COVID-19 pandemic should the Republican party retake the majority in Congress.
“The top investigation — which I think will primarily be done on the Oversight Committee — is on Fauci and the gain of function and the lab leak, which is the most likely scenario how we got this virus,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) told Breitbart News.
“It’s good to know that with his retirement, Dr. Fauci will have ample time to appear before Congress and share under oath what he knew about the Wuhan lab, as well as the ever-changing guidance under his watch that resulted in wrongful mandates being imposed on Americans,” Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) stated.
Dr. Fauci has worked for the National Institutes of Health since 1968, when Lyndon B. Johnson was President. He is currently the highest paid official in the U.S. government.
