Education Department officials unveiled an investigation into forty-five universities across the country for allegedly violating Title IV of the Civil Rights Act through discriminatory programs.

The agency said earlier this month that their Office for Civil Rights would examine schools partnered with “The PhD Project,” a program which “purports to provide doctoral students with insights into obtaining a PhD and networking opportunities” but limits eligibility based on race.
