The state of Washington filed a lawsuit against the Adams County Sheriff’s Office on Monday over their cooperation with the illegal alien deportation efforts of President Donald Trump.

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown said in a release from his office that Adams County is “illegally collaborating” with federal immigration officials by aiding Trump administration efforts to “enlist local officials for federal civil immigration work.” Brown claimed their work to hold illegal aliens in custody and help federal agents question detainees “expressly violates state law.”

Brown added that the Keep Washington Working Act prohibits local law enforcement from providing assistance to federal immigration officials seeking to uphold immigration law.

The official also criticized the Adams County Sheriff’s Office for retaining attorneys from America First Legal, an organization founded by senior Trump administration adviser Stephen Miller.

Brown said that after the inauguration “the county and its Sheriff’s Office suddenly hardened their stance, broke off settlement talks, and aligned themselves with an organization founded by a top Trump aide who is among the most virulent anti-immigrant voices in the administration.”

America First Legal meanwhile asserted last month that the “sanctuary laws and policies” are indeed the statutes which are “illegal and dangerous,” also contending that Washington state officials are seeking to “compel Adams County to violate federal immigration laws.”

James Rogers, senior counsel for America First Legal, observed that “our nation’s immigration laws reflect the democratic will of the people, and it is outrageous that the State of Washington has been working to subvert it while at the same time facilitating the invasion of our country.”
