The gun violence health advisory written by now-former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy was removed by the Department of Health and Human Services to protect the Second Amendment.

The webpage decrying “firearm violence in America” previously outlined “the devastating and far-reaching consequences that firearm violence poses to the health and well-being of the country,” but was removed from the website of the Department of Health and Human Services.

The action required Attorney General Pam Bondi to examine all previous executive orders issued under now-former President Joe Biden, as well as rules from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives that may have restricted the right to keep and bear arms.

An administration official said that “violence of any sort is a crime issue, and as he again made clear during his recent speech at the Department of Justice, President Trump is committed to Making America Safe Again by empowering law enforcement to uphold law and order.”

Giffords, a gun control entity which praised Murthy when he initially released the public health advisory last summer, rebuked the Trump administration for rescinding the webpage, claiming that “gun violence is the leading cause of death for American children and adolescents.”

Emma Brown, the executive director of Giffords, said that “President Trump has chosen to prioritize gun industry profits over protecting kids and families” by removing the advisory.
