The Department of Homeland Security has launched an investigation into Los Angeles County over claims that they offered federal benefits to people in the country illegally.
The agency issued a subpoena to the county’s Department of Public Social Services, demanding records from the state-run Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants. Investigators want to determine if recipients unlawfully received Supplemental Security Income benefits to which they were not entitled.
The probe covers documentation from January 2021 to the present day. Officials are seeking application materials, immigration status records, and proof of ineligibility for federal Supplemental Security Income benefits, as outlined in the formal request.
